Born in the dirt

There wasn’t a time where I don’t remember my father Bobby (Chia) Moore coming home with dirty boots. Many Saturdays back in the day, I’d go with my father to his site and I’d ride on the side control panel of his old 963c, as I got into my teens I’d be the one rolling in the building pads before the rain that would be coming that afternoon (I was cheap free labor).

Right after high school, I knew I didn’t want to go to college so I started at the same family owned company my Dad worked at in Northern Virginia. I would go on to work on Dirt Crews, Pipe Crews, and later a Survey Crew where I learned how to read site plans… of course I’d always get the “Hey you’re Chia’s boy aren’t you?” regardless of what crew I was on. I took to reading site plans like a fish to water. After a few years of pounding hubs in the ground, that same company was looking for an entry level estimator. So, with my dirty boots I showed up to the chief estimator’s office for my interview. I learned a lot there but that was just the beginning of my estimating journey.

Later I would go on to work at several Civil Sitework Companies in Virginia and North Carolina. Being everything from an Estimating Trainer, Project Manager, Quality Control Specialist to Chief Estimator.

Finally, after twenty-seven years I decided it was enough working for the man and I wanted to work for myself. So, here I am… hopefully working on your project very soon.

Regards,

Adam (Ironbeard) Moore
